Case Study: XINSURANCE Racing 2025 Offshore Racing Livery
Turning a race boat into a recognizable icon, not just another number on the water.
The Background
XINSURANCE Racing partnered with Copper Rock to design a full visual system for the 2025 offshore racing season. This wasn’t just a boat wrap, it was a complete racing identity spanning three boats, trucks, trailers, helicopters, and downstream apparel. The goal was to create something that felt legendary in the sport while remaining compliant, functional, and unmistakable at speed.
The Challenge
Offshore racing is visually crowded and unforgiving.
Most race boats blur together at speed.
Design must comply with strict racing regulations.
Visibility changes dramatically depending on water angle, speed, and distance.
The wrap had to work across three different boats, each with unique geometry.
It also had to extend seamlessly to trucks, trailers, and helicopters without feeling disjointed.
On top of that, XINSURANCE wanted something that felt like a relic in the sport, not a trend-chasing design that would age out in a season.
The Strategy
We approached this as a livery system, not a single wrap.
Drew inspiration from Ken Block, a Utah native whose legacy set the standard for bold, recognizable motorsport liveries.
Studied past iconic Ken Block liveries to extract principles, contrast, geometry, motion, without copying.
Engineered the design around how the boat actually rides on the water, identifying which surfaces would be visible at speed versus docked.
Collaborated directly with installers and the racing team to take precise measurements and understand stress points, seams, and curvature.
Designed a scalable system that could adapt across:
3 race boats (all different hulls)
Support trucks
Trailers
Helicopters
Built the design with merchandising in mind, ensuring it could translate cleanly onto apparel without losing its identity.
Every decision was intentional. No filler. No decoration for decoration’s sake.
The Results
The boats became instantly recognizable on the water.
Fans and national viewers consistently identified XINSURANCE Racing without needing logos explained.
The livery gained traction beyond racing, evolving into apparel and merchandise sold nationwide.
The wrap elevated the brand from “another competitor” to a visual benchmark in offshore racing.
The system proved repeatable and expandable for future seasons.
This wasn’t just noticed, it was remembered.
The Takeaway
Iconic design doesn’t come from copying trends, it comes from understanding context, constraints, and legacy.
By treating the wrap as a full brand system, collaborating deeply with installers and the racing team, and designing for real-world performance, we created something that can be refined, scaled, and reintroduced year after year.
