Creating the most recognizable livery in offshore racing

XINSURANCE Racing didn't need more speed. They needed a visual identity that matched it. Copper Rock designed a full livery system across three boats, trucks, trailers, and helicopters that became a visual benchmark in the sport.
The Pain
Offshore racing is visually crowded. At speed, most boats blur together. Fans, sponsors, and national viewers couldn't pick XINSURANCE out of the field. A brand that can't be seen can't build equity.
The Problem
Design in motorsport has to comply with strict racing regulations, perform visually across different water angles and distances, and work across entirely different hull geometries. XINSURANCE had three boats, plus trucks, trailers, and helicopters. All of it needed to feel like one cohesive system without feeling forced.
The Approach
We treated this as a livery system, not a single wrap. Drawing on the legacy of Utah native Ken Block, the gold standard for bold, recognizable motorsport liveries, we extracted principles of contrast, geometry, and motion without copying. We worked directly with installers and the racing team, taking precise measurements and mapping which surfaces would be visible at speed versus docked. We designed with merchandising in mind from day one so the identity could translate onto apparel without losing impact.

The Results
The boats became instantly recognizable. Fans and national viewers identified XINSURANCE Racing without needing logos explained. The livery expanded into apparel and merchandise sold nationwide. The system proved repeatable and scalable for future seasons, turning a race team into a visual icon in the sport.
